WildFaces creates a dog with cognitive skills

We have a new dog – a robodog. It was introduced to the world at the Hong Kong InnoEx in April.

There were many robodogs around at the exhibition as the mechanical engineering for them is well understood.

However, our dog was different in that it has cognitive skills – it can see, hear and even smell and it can communicate in multiple languages and send messages to your phone.

Unlike a real dog we can send it down a mine shaft and it won’t be overcome by a noxious gas like carbon mon oxide. In fact, it will smell the gases and let you know in English or in any other language that you prefer that it might be dangerous to go down there because of high levels of nitrous oxide, hydrogen sulphide or something else.

Over time we plan to train it to sniff out drugs and explosives. And unlike a real dog it can tell you exactly what it has smelt.

Notably it does not have to be fed. It does not bite; it does not need to sleep; it does not bark and wake up the neighbours, you don’t have to take it for a walk and it does not need to be taken to a vet.

And when it dies you wont be bereft with grief – in other words, the perfect pet.
